On Thursday 17 March, some 15 volunteers from all departments successfully completed the challenge of preparing more than 150 meals in our kitchen and serving them in the Botanique metro station. These meals were destined for the most needy as part of Operation Thermos.
A few weeks later, on Sunday 29 May, several of our colleagues ran in the Brussels 20k in the colours of Run & Walk for Parkinson’s. Together with 35,000 other participants, they raised almost 2.3 million euros. This fundraising will support humanitarian and charitable projects.
Finally, in July, dozens of staff members took part, as they do every year, in the blood drive organised with the Red Cross.
These are just a few examples.
Energy Assistance is an association created in 2001 by active or retired volunteers from the electricity and gas sector. Its objective is to leverage the skills and know-how of its members, supported by technical resources, in support of humanitarian projects.
In June 2022, Olivier De Ridder and Sebastien Vanhuysse, two Sibelga staff members, took part in a mission to Togo. The aim was to install solar panels for the benefit of the non-profit organisation Soleil des Nations, which runs a children’s home. The orphanage and the school now have an electricity connection and the centre has better access to drinking water thanks to solar facilities.
Sibelga works with Out Of Use, a specialist in the recycling of IT and electrical equipment, for the collection, reuse or recycling of its PCs and smartphones.
According to the latest report for the period 2021–2022, Out of Use collected 1,497 kg of IT equipment from Sibelga and its staff. 25% of this equipment was refurbished for re-use and 68% of the equipment was dismantled for recycling.
